News New Beaulieu One Hundred Awards presented Friday, 4 November 2022 at 11:00:00 UTC By Al Suttie New awards recognise outstanding contributions The new Beaulieu One Hundred Awards have been presented to two individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the classic car world. The first recipients of the new award are Henry Pearman and Jack Groves. Pearman earned the award for his work in forming the Historic & Classic Vehicle Alliance. Jack Groves was presented the award for his achievement of being the youngest person to ride a motorcycle around the world using a Royal Enfield. The awards were held at the Royal Automobile Club in London. These new awards will now be presented annually.

News Singer reveals first Turbo car Thursday, 10 February 2022 at 9:30:00 UTC By Al Suttie First 911 Turbo restomod from Singer US-based Singer has revealed its first turbocharged restomod Porsche 911, called the Turbo Study. It is based on a 964 model and uses twin turbos attached to a 3.8-litre air-cooled flat-six with more than 450bhp. The rear-wheel drive Turbo Study has a six-speed manual gearbox, carbon-ceramic brakes, and suspension that has been set up for road use. Bodywork incorporates carbon-fibre to reduce weight, while the cabin is finished in Malibu Sand with Black Forest wood accents. Singer says this is a basic mechanical specification for further Turbo commissions and customers can choose more powerful options, as well as cars with a track focus. News FBHVC scam warning Wednesday, 23 February 2022 at 9:30:00 UTC By Al Suttie Scam warning from the FBHVC The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs is warning businesses and clubs of a scam email claiming to be from the FBHVC. Several members have alerted the FBHVC about the email, which is sent from an Olivia Robert who claims to be a B2B marketing analyst. The email offers the viewer the chance to buy a mailing list. Anyone who receives this email is advised to tell the FBHVC and not to respond to the scam email. The FBHVC’s IT Director Tim Jarrett said: ‘We have endeavoured to trace the email back to its source, but investigation found it related to a fake company. It is inconvenient, but typical of many scams circulating at the moment.’ The FBHVC says only email from its secretary@fbhvc.co.uk address are genuine and any other unsolicited communications should be deleted and users should not open any attachments with such emails. https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/

News Mecum hits record $234 million at Kissimmee sale Friday, 20 January 2023 at 16:30:00 UTC By Al Suttie Mecum achieves $234 million of sales at 12-day auction The Mecum Kissimmee sale is billed at the world’s largest collector car auction and it lived up to the billing with $234 million (£189 million) of vehicles sold during its 12-day run. 2023 is the second year in a row where Mecum has exceeded $200 million in sales at its first auction of the year, and more than 4000 vehicles were consigned. At the end of the sale, 3180 vehicles had been sold, giving a sale rate of 79.5%. Out of those sales, 13 vehicles went for more than $1 million, including a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air IV Convertible. The highest price was achieved by a Ferrari F40 that sold for $3.135 million (£2.53 million). European models locked out the top five highest prices, with the F40 followed by a Ferrari 275 GTB/4, BMW 507 Roadster, Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, and a Ferrari 330 GTS. http://www.mecum.com

News TR door panel reintroduced Monday, 25 April 2022 at 13:00:00 UTC By Al Suttie BMH offers TR B-pillar again British Motor Heritage has reintroduced its replacement B-pillar panels for the Triumph TR4, 4A and 5 models. The company has also reinstated panel for the same area on the TR250 and TR6 models. BMH has invested in new tooling to create the panels, which come finished in an electro-coated paint. Prices or the panels are £145 plus VAT for the TR4 and £135 plus VAT for the TR5, 250 and 6. Managing Director of BMH Graham Payne said: ‘In the last two years, we have invested considerable sums of money in the refurbishment of our original BMC/Leyland tooling, some of which is now over 60-years old. In cases such as the Triumph B-Posts, where the original tooling no longer exists, we will consider investing in new hardware whenever there is sufficient demand to create a viable production programme.’ https://www.bmh-ltd.com/

This is the first time these awards have been made and the 10 students come from across the US. They were selected on their dedication to classic car restoration and preservation. The students receive up to $5000 towards the cost of their education. Robert Minnick, Founder and CEO of The Piston Foundation, said: ‘Because of the generous gifts of our donors in the car enthusiast community, these students will be able to pursue their dreams and build careers as collector car technicians and restoration specialists. ‘We have worked hard to reach this point after only a year and a half since our launch. It’s based in Edingley to the north east of Nottingham. There will be a constantly rotating display of classic cars at the café, including those owned by The Car Crowd as part of its investment portfolio. There are 20 car park spaces available for visitors. David Spickett, CEO of The Car Crowd, said: ‘We are really looking to emphasise and build upon the community aspect of TheCarCrowd and this new café will do exactly that – bring people together. News FJ Indicator Report points to future of classic sector Thursday, 19 May 2022 at 10:00:00 UTC By Al Suttie New report looks at future of classic industry The first Footman James Indicator Report has been published and it shows areas where the classic car industry can increase its growth and relevance. A key finding of the report is the classic sector needs to do more to become more inclusive to younger enthusiasts and more diverse fans. The report shows only 9% of classic car owners are women, while almost half (49%) of new drivers aged 25 or younger would consider buying a classic car. Among the ideas mooted in the report are a move to shared ownership of classic cars, and online communities are an increasingly important part of the ownership experience for younger enthusiasts. Managing Director of Footman James, David Bond said: ‘Change is good for our community. In many ways, as this report highlights, we have changed and evolved as a classic car sector, using technology and communities in times of need. But, if we look around, it’s clear to see that our industry isn’t doing enough to change quickly enough, especially around the gender and age of enthusiasts. ‘Speaking to our clients and indeed the public about classic and collector cars, as a community, we’re deemed as old school as our cars, and we must listen to this criticism and become more attractive, inclusive and welcoming to the new era of the classic vehicle community. News Turnkey replicas now legal in US Friday, 4 March 2022 at 9:30:00 UTC By Al Suttie US low volume replica production made legal Small volume car makers in the US can sell up to 325 replica vehicles per annum in a change to policy from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The new law recognises the growth in low volume manufacturers. Previously, the only laws covered all vehicle manufacturers in the US. All turnkey replica vehicles now built will have to meet current emissions regulations, but the move has been welcomed following a legal challenge by SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) in 2019. All low volume manufacturers must also register with the NHTSA, as well as the Environment Protection Agency, and Californian Air Resources Board prior to selling turnkey cars. Daniel Ingber, SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs, said: ‘SEMA applauds NHTSA’s final rule allowing companies to market classic-themed cars. Regulatory barriers have previously prevented small automakers from producing heritage cars that are coveted by consumers. The roadblocks have been eliminated.
