Uprated 205 GTI supplied to first customer
Tolman Engineering has supplied the first of its Edition 205 GTI uprated cars. The first customer model has been supplied with a 200bhp 1.9-litre engine to show what is possible on the Peugeot’s platform.
The Tolman Edition 205 GTI costs from £55,000 and customers can choose how many modifications and options they want to include in the build. All of the updates made to the car are completely reversible, with the aim to offer a car that offers the definitive iteration of the GTI.
All of the Edition cars are built using a full prepared bare metal shell that is then subject to a 700-hour build process.
Customers have a choice of 1.6- and 1.9-litre engines for the Tolman Edition car, and the company uprates the original 1.9 motor rather than swapping to the Mi16 motor that was a common upgrade in period.
As well as uprating the engine, Tolman uses a Motec ECU with fly-by-wire throttle to help realise the 200bhp maximum from the 1.9-litre engine. There is also the option of adding a Quaife limited slip differential to help harness the power.
Managing Director Chris Tolman said: ‘The overriding impression from those experiencing our development car was the emotions it invoked. Drivers stepped out of the car grinning, having rekindled that feeling that’s so hard to find when driving today’s sports cars on the road.
‘We wanted to recreate that feeling of being at one with the road, a car you can just jump in and simply enjoy driving hard. Current hot hatches surpass these cars in so many areas but despite having loads of power and incredible dynamics, they fail to rekindle that emotional involvement that made us feel special with the 205.’
Further Tolman Edition cars are planned based on hot hatches from the 1980s and 1990s, and all will come with a 12-month parts and labour warranty, and 12-month service and inspection at Tolman Engineering included in the price.
